What is a Rain Buddy?
A Rain Buddy is a Rain and Snowmelt harvesting system that can decrease your water bill, reduce the risk of flooding, and make the world a greener place. It can be applied to homes and commercial buildings, high-rise dwellings, and office buildings, schools, and even parks.
All drainage pipes and sump pumps are connected to a holding tank(s). The tank has an overflow connected to the storm drain, should the tank reach the maximum capacity. The water in the tank is filtered, and pressurized and connected to a pump. The water can then be used for non-potable use only, (Non-potable means not for drinking). In times of drought, a main water back up switch will activate, filling your tank with potable water to a minimum fill level. When rain fills the tank again the switch will turn off, and only rainwater will be used. The water can be used for lawn and garden watering. It can also be diverted back into the home or commercial building for other non-potable usages. These uses include; toilet flushing, boiler heating, dishwashers, laundry, janitorial, car washes, wash bays, in floor heating systems, hot tubs, swimming pools, fire sprinkler systems, hockey arenas, and curling rinks.
Municipalities can also use this water for watering athletic fields, trees and flowerbeds, and street cleaning.
